Peeya Rai Choudhuri is an actor, performer, creative director and cultural producer whose work moves between theatre, film, television and live performance. Beginning her professional journey at seventeen, she combined acting with independent study and later trained in theatre and contemporary dance in New Delhi, Madrid and New York, including periods at the New York Film Academy and the Ailey School.

Her early career brought together a wide range of experiences. She presented television programmes, performed in theatre under directors including Alyque Padamsee and Rajat Kapoor, and appeared in Indian and international films, including Gurinder Chadha’s Bride & Prejudice and Ram Gopal Varma’s Vaastu Shastra and Darna Mana Hai. These years shaped her understanding of the performer not simply as an interpreter, but as a storyteller capable of creating connection across different audiences and cultures.

After losing her parents in her late twenties, Peeya’s relationship with art took on a deeper purpose. She began searching for a creative community through which performance could support personal transformation, discipline and a stronger sense of belonging.

In 2013, she co-founded Omaggio Performing Company in Goa with Tino Sanchez. Over the following thirteen years, Peeya dedicated herself to developing emerging Indian artists through theatre, movement, contemporary dance and multidisciplinary performance. She also helped create Maya Amphitheatre, an independent outdoor venue built in memory of her mother, where Omaggio presented its own productions and hosted artists including Vir Das, Luminario Ballet and Alok Vaid-Menon.

Through OmaggioCrea, Peeya continues to bring emotional intelligence, cultural sensitivity and a performer’s instinct to every collaboration. Her work is driven by the belief that art can shift perception, create dialogue and leave audiences with something that continues long after the performance ends.
