Omaggio Performing Company is an artist-development and contemporary performance company founded by Peeya Rai Choudhuri and Tino Sanchez in Goa in 2013.
Created to nurture a new generation of Indian performers, the company combines long-term training, artistic experimentation and professional performance experience. Artists are encouraged to develop not only their technical abilities, but also their individual voice, creative confidence and professional identity.
The company works across contemporary dance, physical theatre, circus and multidisciplinary performance, creating original productions while giving emerging artists the time, discipline and environment required to grow.
At the heart of this journey was a distinctive methodology developed by Tino and Peeya, bringing together the discipline and performance practices of Western training with the spiritual practices and principles of Eastern traditions. This created a holistic approach to artist development, where physical and technical training was complemented by practices of awareness, presence, inner exploration and connection between body, mind and creativity. Rather than simply combining two cultures, Omaggio created a space where these different perspectives could interact and enrich one another, offering emerging artists a broader understanding of themselves as performers and as creative individuals.
The achievement of Omaggio was in the level of transformation it was able to generate. Artists who entered the project at the very beginning of their development were given the time, means, discipline and creative environment to grow into accomplished performers, capable of meeting the demands of a professional stage with confidence and individuality. We even created our own amphitheatre, giving the performers a dedicated platform where they could regularly perform in front of a live audience, putting their training into practice and accelerating their development through real performance experience. The quality of the work became a direct reflection of that process: a journey from discovering the fundamentals of performance to reaching a level of excellence. The fact that many of them went on to establish independent careers became a lasting testament to the strength and effectiveness of the project.
