A classic transformed for the musical stage
Don Juan, a sangre y fuego reimagined José Zorrilla’s legendary drama as a large-scale original musical for Madrid’s Gran Vía.
As stage director and choreographer, Tino Sanchez shaped the production’s physical and theatrical language—from principal characters and ensemble movement to transitions, musical staging and complex scenic sequences. The work brought choreography, illusion, moving scenery and dramatic storytelling together within one ambitious theatrical world.

The Story
José Zorrilla’s classic tale follows Don Juan Tenorio, a notorious seducer whose encounter with Doña Inés forces him to confront love, loss and the possibility of redemption.
The musical preserves the passion and poetry of the original drama while expanding its world through original music, large ensemble sequences, illusion, spectral apparitions and theatrical effects.
Staging, movement & choreography
The production demanded a close relationship between performance and the constantly changing stage environment. Movement was developed not only for the performers, but also around scenic transitions, practical effects and mobile props.
Tavern tables, ensemble formations and large theatrical sequences were choreographed as part of the storytelling, allowing the world of Don Juan to shift fluidly between celebration, conflict, seduction and the supernatural.
