Sa Ladhak

Sa, meaning soil in Ladakhi language, is South Asia’s highest ever contemporary land art group exhibition at 3600m, focusing on the theme of mountains, environment, culture and community.

Our Creative Team embarked on a beautiful project, developing the concept for a performance alongside the stage design.

The aim was not merely to construct a “stage,” but rather to craft an art piece or installation capable of morphing into a functional performance area.

The installation drew inspiration from the looms of Ladakh, exploring the interplay between the animals, the Ladakhi people, and the wind. A noteworthy feature was the enchanting sound of bells dangling from the loom, which was truly mesmerizing.

This concept gave life to a performance: a 30-minute show blending Contemporary Dance, Aerial Arts, and Theatre, infused with elements of Ladakhi traditions and the daily lives of these industrious people.

These traditions spurred us to forge our own artistic rendition.

The Art Installation

Many versions preceded the one we ultimately adopted.

Artistic adventure
at high altitude

Although it was a very difficult physical challenge at 3,600 meters, it was also one of the most beautiful projects that we have ever encountered.
